SCA Alumni at VIFF
SCA film alumni are once again well-represented at the , which runs September 27 to October 12, 2018, with screenings at various venues in Vancouver (including our building, ). We're always excited to hear about and see the work of our students and alumni – their success makes us proud. Here's what to look out for this year.
The program in the series includes the world premiere of 's , which is described as a "mesmerizing look at the tranquil countryside found on the Isle of Coll, Scotland," and the North American premiere of 's , which follows a young woman around Toronto as she "cycles between increasingly intimate encounters with three diverse people, but remains trapped in a pattern of insatiable longing." ' , which had its world premiere at the 2018 (official selection), has its Canadian premiere as part of the program in the series. A story of "alienation and memory," is centred on an investigation by a young girl of her neighbour's "wildly boring running route." Watch the trailer here.
's , which will also have its world premiere at the 2018 this September, is showing as part of the program in the series. tells the story of a "sensitive waiter in a toxic work environment," played by Gillingham, who is upset and disturbed by a dinner special – "prawns burned alive on a fire grill" – and decides to take action, freeing the prawns and himself. Although not yet an alumni, current SCA film student Hân Phạm has had her first-year final film, , a short about a woman who "unravels as her body is commodified by media and society," chosen for the section of VIFF, where it will have its world premiere. What a great achievement!
