Dr. Amy Parent Appointed as UNESCO Co-Chair to advance Indigenous Knowledge and Research Governance
The Faculty of Education congratulates Dr. Amy Parent (Sigidimnak Nox̱s Ts’aawit), associate professor and in Indigenous Governance and Education, on being named a UNESCO Co-Chair in Transforming Indigenous Knowledge Research Governance and Rematriation.
This international appointment recognizes Dr. Parent’s long-standing leadership in advancing Indigenous research governance and education. Hosted at SFU, this joint chair role facilitates global collaboration among Indigenous rights holders, Knowledge Keepers, and scholars in Canada, India, and beyond. This new role deepens her work in rematriation and international Indigenous research leadership, and extends an open invitation to communities worldwide to join in this vision.

A panel discussion recently hosted at the Bill Reid Gallery in Vancouver focused on the specifics of the Ni'isjoohl Pole Memorial Pole re-m/patriation, especially in relation to the wider international contexts of law, culture, governance, education, and decolonizing mandates and actions in colonial institutional systems.
