The Making Ends Meet Poverty Simulation (MEM) is run by members of Dr. Stephen Wright’s Intergroup Relations and Social Justice (IRSJ) lab at 91ܽ. Our talented team of undergraduate volunteers are trained to act as “service providers” during MEM and to facilitate group discussions at the end of the simulation. These volunteers are managed by Maitland Waddell, a PhD student in the IRSJ lab and the Project Coordinator of MEM. You can learn more about our team at: www.sfu-irsj.ca

In this conversation we invite participants to consider such questions as: How can community play a larger role in shaping new systems of compensation and setting fair rates? How have you or your institution been able to do this well? Please join us on March 13th where we will engage in an informal opportunity to discuss and share ideas and experiences concerning how we as community-engaged researchers can be at our best with our community partners and fully engage with them in a manner consistent with their context and experience.

The Salon is inspired by the work of artist and convenor Lois Weaver who advocates for a Long Table format that offers a place where all can gather to share their experiences and engage with the experiences of others. The table is set with 12 chairs, the conversation is self-moderated although organized around a theme and questions to launch the dialogue. Participants sit at or around the outside of the table, and any individual present can take a seat and join the emerging discussion. The conversation lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
