Hastings Corridor Economic Development Research Project

This project supports the collaborative efforts of several community-based organizations鈥�, , , and Activate DTES鈥攖o better understand the unmet needs of residents in the East Hastings corridor, particularly those from low-income and equity-denied communities. It focuses on identifying gaps in current and planned goods and services and exploring how small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can fill these gaps in ways that directly benefit local communities. As part of the Hastings Corridor Economic Development Research Project, the initiative aims to revitalize the area by activating empty storefronts with community-centered businesses and essential services. By prioritizing inclusivity and long-term resident needs, this work offers a community-first response to gentrification鈥攐ne that fosters equity, belonging, and shared economic opportunity.
The output of this project - aims to identify existing service gaps and anticipate future community needs that support long-term, sustainable, and inclusive development.
