The objectives of the CSD are:
- To conduct research related to sustainable development, in collaboration and engagement with researchers across FENV and SFU, with our colleagues outside the University and with community partners
- To serve as a nexus point and facilitate reciprocity, leverage and synthesis for excellence in research on sustainable development across FENV and SFU, through occasional and strategic opportunities for dialogue and engagement activities
- To foster meaningful understanding and opportunities for research collaboration and knowledge mobilization among the talented researchers and related groups across FENV, SFU, Canada and worldwide
- To seek to engage community partners outside the academy in mutually stimulating and beneficial research partnerships
- To develop a local, national, and global visibility for excellence in sustainable development research at SFU
- To stimulate, inform, and advance the study and implementation of sustainable development in B.C., Canada, and internationally
- To respond effectively to demands and obligations in relation to University, local, national, and international policies, goals and objectives in relation to sustainable development, including but not limited to: the 17 , the 94 , Canada’s 2023 , Metro Vancouver , SFU’s 2020-25 Sustainability Plan Goal 2: Research, the Community-Engaged Research Institute’s principles of participation, cooperation and social transformation.
