International Student Orientation

All new international undergraduate and graduate students beginning their studies at SFU this Fall 2025 are invited to our 3-part orientation series to get transition support and make connections.

The orientation series is comprised of three parts. All 3 parts are essential to be completed

Part 1: Information Session

Attend this live virtual info session to learn about key topics to prepare for your time in Canada, and get your questions answered. Session topics include:

  • Immigration documents (study permits/visas) and travel requirements
  • Enrollment requirements and work eligibility (Enrollment requirements as they relate to study permit conditions and work eligibility only)
  • Medical insurance and supports (guard.me@SFU, BC MSP, Studentcare Health and Dental Plan) 
  • Deferral process
  • Services, supports, and resources for international students

Graduate Student Info Session

Undergraduate Student Info Session

  • Date: Tuesday, July 15, 2025
  • Time: 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM (PT)

Part 2: Student Panel Session

Attend this live virtual session to get tips from current international students to make the most of your time at SFU. Advisors will also be present to answer any questions you may have.

  • Student panelists represent international undergraduate and graduate experiences from various faculties.

Part 3: International Student Welcome Socials

These in-person welcome socials are for all new and returning international students to make new connections and learn about your support services at SFU. 

You’re welcome to join any of the welcome socials that fit your schedule.

SFU Burnaby

SFU Surrey

  • Date: September 9
  • Time: 1 PM - 3 PM (PT)
  • Where: Mezzanine, Surrey Centre Building

Hosted by SFU Student Recruitment & Admissions and SFU International Services for Students, this event is free and open to families of international students.

While your student is attending Welcome Day activities, please join us at the Global Student Center. This is your chance to connect with other parents and caregivers, to ask our staff questions, to share stories, and also just to relax over refreshments.

Our doors will be open, so please drop by, even just to say hi and experience this dedicated space that has international multilingual students in mind.

To attend our virtual sessions, you must have access to internet, and a working computer. Registered participants will be provided with a link in advance via email to access the online space. Our live virtual sessions will be offered via the online platform Zoom. about SFU Zoom features, tools, and privacy.
