Global Student Centre Events

At the Global Student Centre (GSC), International Services for Students offers an array of social events aimed at fostering connections among international students at SFU, cultivating an inclusive global community on campus, and celebrating intercultural diversity at SFU.

Who can participate in the GSC events?

Open to all SFU students, the GSC events are catered specifically to students from international pathways, including international undergraduate and graduate students, study abroad and exchange students, and any other newcomer students from outside of Canada.

What are the benefits of participating in the GSC events?

Global Student Centre (GSC) Welcome Week

Welcome (and welcome back) to SFU! Whether you are a new or returning international student, we invite you to kick off the new semester with the GSC’s Welcome Week. We are excited to offer special snacks each day to energize and cheer you on as you start the semester.

Our friendly team will be there to welcome you, share what events and services we have lined up for you at our centre, and answer any questions you might have.

Meet, Greet, and Eat - Well-being Through Creative Expression

In collaboration with SFU Health and Counselling and the Global Student Centre, "Meet, Greet, and Eat" is a safe and inclusive space for students to hang out, meet new people, eat lunch together, and participate in fun and creative activities, including crafts and games. 

No Material? No Problem!

We will supply all the materials. All activities are optional - you can enjoy doing crafts or simply hang out and connect with others. Registration is encouraged for supply planning, drop-ins are always welcome.

Please note:

  • Refreshments and snacks will be served throughout the event.
  • You have the flexibility to come and go from the event anytime from 12:30 to 2 pm.
  • You can also bring your lunch. Our kitchen is fully equipped with essential appliances and utensils.

General Q & A Session for Multilingual TAs 

Join us with your questions about your current or upcoming TA work on topics such as support with teaching strategies, managing tutorials, dealing with tricky situations, balancing your workload, grading and giving feedback, managing your time, and so on!  

We will share effective strategies and resources with you. This is also a great opportunity to meet your peers, build community, and expand your TA toolkit! Join one of our two sessions on May 21 and May 29.

By the end of this session participants will: 

  • have answers to the questions they bring to this session 
  • know where to find further resources and support 
  • have met other multilingual TAs and expanded their TA community 

Facilitators:

EAL Consultants Eilidh Singh and Amanda Wallace from the Centre for Educational Excellence will be facilitating the session.
