Traffic notices

Watch for equipment and construction crews at the areas listed below and always obey signs, traffic controls, and traffic control personnel. Please remember that speed limits are lower in construction zones.

July-Aug 2025 Gaglardi Way Temporary Roadway Interruptions

The following pertains to a City of Burnaby project just off campus that is anticipated to impact travel to and from campus. The following is provided for awareness.

When:

It is our understanding that the roadway interruption may begin mid-July. At this time, a start date has not been scheduled.

Where:

The section of Gaglardi Way between Burnaby Mountain Parkway and Broadway. Refer to the map.

Work to be completed:

Road surface milling and paving.

Expected interruptions:

1. Traffic lanes will be lessened to one lane open in each direction with these lanes pushed to one half of the road.

2. Traffic delays can be expected. Allow extra travel time.

July 3-5 Temporary Gaglardi Way Roadway Interruption and Transit (INBOUND) Bus Re-Route

When:

6:00pm - 6:00am, July 3rd - 5th (2025)

Where:

The section of Gaglardi Way on the east side of the Transportation Centre

Work to be completed:

Filming on campus. This will involve a large crane staged blocking the road on the east side of the Transportation Centre.

Expected interruptions:

1. The section of Gaglardi Way on the east side of the Transportation Centre will be closed from 6:00pm-6:00am (nightly) July 3rd and 4th

2. A transit bus (inbound) re-route for buses arriving to campus will be in place. Refer to the map above. All passengers will disembark buses at the transit loop beside the Cornerstone Building. Passengers will then have an option to board another bus to reach the west side of campus or use the Community Shuttle that runs until 10:00pm Monday through Friday.

3. Traffic delays can be expected. Allow extra travel time.

4. Access to the Central Parkade will not be available after 6:00pm on July 3rd & 4th.

SPRING 2025 - July 2027 Campus Roadway and Parking Lot Interruptions

The following is related to activity that can be expected on the Burnaby campus as part of the Student Residence "Phase 3 Construction Project"

When:

Spring 2025 - July 2027

Where:

1. Residence main parking lot off West Campus Road

2. West Campus Road

3. University Drive West

4. Sections of Gaglardi Way and University Drive East

Work to be completed:

Constuction of student residence building

Expected interruptions:

1. An increase in construction vehicles travelling on campus can be expected along sections of Gaglardi Way, University Drive East, University Drive West, and West Campus Road. This includes slow moving vehicles navigating roadway inclines.

2. Traffic delays can be expected. Allow extra travel time.

3. The northern section of the Residence main parking lot is closed throughout the building construcition period and restricted to construction personnel and vehicles.

3. Construction vehicles will be travelling through the residence main parking lot off West Campus Road to enter and depart from the construction site staging and lay-down area. Caution should be exercised and extra attention given to traffic control person assisting with truck routing through the parking lot and in and out of the construction site.

Please be aware of construction activity in the residence precinct, especially in and around the vicinity of the main parking lot.

Sep 2024 - May 2025 Arts Road Temporary Roadway and Walkway Interruption

(2 June 2025)     Work continues in this area. A completion date is not available at time of posting.

When:

September 2024 - May 2025

Where:

The section of Arts Road between University Drive East and the vicinity of Strand Hall receiving lane.

Work to be completed:

Roadside curb work and pedestrian path upgrades.

Expected interruptions:

1. The southbound traffic lane will be closed between University Drive East and the vicinity of Strand Hall receiving lane. The southbound traffic lane will be closed using fencing.

2. The sidewalk will be closed. A delineated pedestrian detour route around the fencing will be in place.

3. Vehicles enroute along University Drive East to the North Parking lot will be detoured to enter the parking lot from East Campus Road.

4. Vehicles departing the North Parking lot west side will be directed to turn right (northbound) only.

5. Delivery vehicles, service vehicles, and other destined for Strand Hall receiving lane will be detoured to use the section of Arts Road at East Campus Road.  

Comments

1. The northbound traffic lane on Arts Road will be kept open for northbound traffic only.

2. Transit bus routing and schedule is not anticipated to be impacted by the above.
