Drugs & alcohol

Drugs and alcohol can pose serious risks, so it's important to understand responsible use and be aware of the legal consequences before consuming them. Misuse can lead to overdoses, injuries, or accidents with harmful outcomes. Any symptoms or complications should be evaluated and treated by a medical professional.

In an emergency:

  • Call 911.
  • If you are on an SFU campus, also call Campus Public Safety: 778-782-4500.

On the Burnaby campus, the 24/7 Campus Public Safety team can often respond faster than 911 responders due to the campus location.

In the case of a suspected opioid overdose, Campus Public Safety is trained to administer Narcan® spray.

Are you struggling with addiction or dependency?

Naloxone kits on all campuses

As of April 2025, Naloxone kit cabinets have been installed across all SFU campuses, including within the Residence and Housing buildings.

For more information on identifying a suspected opioid overdose, how to administer Naloxone and where to locate the kits, visit the Naloxone webpage.
