The TBM-CaN lab in the School of Resource and Environmental Management is seeking an upper-level undergraduate or graduate Research Assistant to support research on modelling terrestrial biosphere–climate interactions. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with CLASSIC, Canada’s state-of-the-art terrestrial biosphere model, and to gain hands-on experience with high-performance computing.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and configure CLASSIC (Canadian Land Surface Scheme including Biogeochemical Cycles) on the Digital Research Alliance of Canada (DRAC) supercomputing platform.
  • Test and troubleshoot model runs.
  • Document workflows and assist in preparing reproducible scripts for future use by lab members.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience with high-performance computing systems (e.g., DRAC clusters) and FORTRAN 90.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Interest in climate, ecosystems, or Earth system science is an asset, but not required.

Position Details:

  • Hours: ~10 hours per week for 3 months with possibility of extension
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Compensation: $25-30/hour depending on experience and degree level
