Data Stewardship
LEAP provides stewardship for learning and teaching data at SFU. In the university’s Data Governance Council, data are grouped into domains, each with a designated steward responsible for quality, privacy, and responsible use. The Director of LEAP serves as the Domain Data Steward for Teaching & Learning, ensuring that this category of data is defined, protected, and available to support educational decision-making.
In practice, stewardship involves:
- Maintaining standards and definitions for learning and teaching data.
- Balancing privacy and accessibility so data can be used responsibly.
- Contributing to SFU’s wider governance goals through the Data Governance Council.
- Developing a data dictionary (in progress) that defines the core measures used in learning and teaching reporting, available for consultation by departments and educational developers.
- Developing a process for comment removal requests for CES reporting [forthcoming Fall 2025]
