Biography

Dr. Zabrina Brumme received her Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine in 2006 from the University of British Columbia. She then went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard University (formerly known as the Partners AIDS Research Center), in Boston, Massachusetts. She joined SFU FHS in 2009, and is currently a full Professor.

Dr. Brumme has received funding from Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the US National Institutes of Health, Michael Smith Health Research BC, the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force, Genome BC, and others.

Research interests

Dr. Brumme’s research programme integrates molecular biology, epidemiology and computational approaches to study HIV genetic diversity and evolution with the goal of informing HIV vaccine and eradication strategies. More recently her laboratory has focused on the characterization of the genetics and dynamics of the latent HIV reservoir towards the design of personalized immunotherapeutic strategies for HIV remission and cure.
