Tatiana Parrish
Biography
As a FASS graduate student, I have spent the last few years in various areas and research topics. As a Masters's student in Political Science, I have been focused on qualitative and quantitative research to determine if and how the international law CEDAW has an impact on violence against women.
As a student in the department, I am part of the Political Science Graduate Caucus. I have organized several socials and speaker events, represented the Graduate Students at Faculty meetings, and provided direct and constructive criticism on how the department can improve in several areas.Â
Currently as a research assistant for the Dean of FASS, I have supported a few endeavours, including providing research support for developing the current Strategic Research Plan, helping with grant proposals and helping to organize FASS-wide speaker events. I am currently assisting in updating a cross-national database on feminist mobilization for 2025.
Outside of 91ÅÝܽ, but at the same time as my MA journey, I have held various board positions in local organizations, including the Canadian International Council and Democrats Abroad.Â
Projects
Feminist Mobilization Index
I am part of the team led by Dr. Laurel Weldon to update her Feminist Mobilization Index. As Research Assistant, I am creating small case studies by collecting information on feminist movements in countries worldwide. This project is funded by UN Women.
Pacific Institute on Pathogens, Pandemics and Society (PIPPS)
As a co-op student and subsequent employee for SFU’s Pacific Institute on Pathogens, Pandemics and Society, I was a research assistant assisting in several different projects, including the BREATHE Project (Building Resilience to Environmental Air Threats and Heat Events), which is centered on community-engaged research for vulnerable communities that created simple instructions for a DIY Air-Cleaner with financial accessibility in mind. The project also engages community members in protecting their lungs at all times of the year. The material I was involved in creating is available on multiple websites, including and the BC CDC.
