Community-Driven Digital Literacy Work in Algorithmic Times
This month’s issue of Education Research Matters features Associate Professor Dr. Suzanne Smythe, whose work on automated literacies investigates how algorithms and digital platforms shape access to rights, work, and education. In collaboration with Dr. Nathalie Sinclair, a team of graduate and postdoctoral researchers, and the Burnaby Neighbourhood House’s community-based digital literacy program, the project explores how automation is transforming literacies and everyday life, and develops new ways of understanding and teaching literacies in an algorithmic world, drawing on critical feminist and more-than-human theories.
Visualizing Research Networks in Honour of Collaborative Scholarship
Exploring an interactive map to showcase and honor FoE faculty members’ SSHRC-funded projects since 2016. The map offers a panoramic view of FoE research undertakings across British Columbia, Canada, the United States, and internationally. By visualizing these projects, the map highlights not only the geographic breadth of research activity but also the depth of cross-border and cross-cultural collaborations. This method allows us to trace past and present relational networks, illuminate emerging connections, and surface future research possibilities.
