Grade 7

Teaching Core French 7 and ready for the next stage? The four units on this page help students solidify their French foundation as they move toward the elective years. Aligned with the Grade 7 Core French curriculum, the lessons are flexible, allowing you to adapt them to meet your students’ needs. Keep building, keep exploring—et bonne aventure en français!

*If students have not acquired some of the grade 5 & 6 skills and learned the vocabulary, it may be a good idea to go back and do some review, as these units build upon their content.

Unit 1: Destination: ma communauté! Je peux expliquer ce que je peux faire et porter pour chaque saison dans ma communauté (la météo, les activités, les vêtements). – Destination: my community! I can explain what I do and wear in each season in my community. (weather, activities & clothing).

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

In this unit, students will plan what they wear for different activities and weather dependent for each season in their community. By the end of the unit, they will create a video to attract French-speaking tourists to their community.

UNIT OBJECTIVES:

  • Je peux expliquer ce que je peux ou ce que je ne peux pas faire dans ma communautĂ©. I can explain what I can and can’t do in my community.
  • Je peux dĂ©crire le temps qu'il fait. I can describe the weather.
  • Je peux dire si je porte ou ne porte pas un vĂŞtement. I can state whether I wear or don’t wear a clothing item.

Unit 2: Bienvenue à mon école! Je peux communiquer sur la vie quotidienne à l'école (cours, enseignant·es, espaces de l'école, horaires). – Welcome to my school! I can communicate about daily school life (classes, teachers, spaces in the school, schedules/ timetables).

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

In this unit, students will explore clothing choices for different activities and seasonal weather in their community. By the end of the unit, they will create a video or skit to welcome a new Francophone student to their school. As part of this project, students will provide a personalized bilingual school map in French and describe both the school schedule and their own class preferences.

UNIT OBJECTIVES:

  • Je peux nommer les matières. I can name the subject areas.
  • Je peux exprimer mes prĂ©fĂ©rences. I can state my preferences.
  • Je peux donner des indications (autour de mon Ă©cole). I can give directions (around my school).
  • Je peux utiliser des stratĂ©gies pour soutenir la communication. I can use strategies to support communication.

Unit 3: Prête à magasiner! Je peux faire du shopping dans une région francophone.- Ready to Shop! I can go shopping in a Francophone region.

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

In this unit, students will learn what they need to pack for a trip to a Francophone region of their choice. They will create a shopping list of items that they need. By the end of the unit, they will create a store of their choice and sell items that people might need to purchase to travel. In this assessment, they will play the role of both customer and shopkeeper to buy and sell items of their choice. 

Unit Objectives:

  • Je peux exprimer mes besoins en utisant la structure: « J’ai besoin de… ». I can express my needs by using the structure “I need…”.
  • Je peux crĂ©er une liste de vĂŞtements Ă  emballer. I can create a liste of clothing to pack. 
  • Je peux communiquer au passĂ© en utilisant la structure : « J’ai acheté… ». I can communicate in the past tense using the structure : “I bought…”.
  • Je peux communiquer dans une situation authentique de shopping. I can communicate in an authentic scenario of shopping.

Unit 4: Destination Francophonie: planifie ton aventure! Je peux me préparer à voyager dans une région francophone. – Destination Francophone World: Plan your Adventure! I can be prepared to travel to a Francophone region.

Unit description:

In this unit, students will learn how to prepare for a trip to a Francophone region. By the end of the unit, they will take on the role of a travel agent and create two different vacation options for a Francophone city or country. Afterwards, they will review their classmates’ travel proposals and select an agency’s vacation package that best matches their own travel preferences.

Unit objectives:

  • Je peux communiquer mes besoins et mes choix. I can communicate my needs and choices.
  • Je peux expliquer mes prĂ©fĂ©rences. I can explain my preferences. 
  • Je peux donner des indications. I can give directions.
  • Je peux communiquer dans un registre formel. I can communicate using a formal register.
