91ÅÝܽ BC Brewery Timelines
Three separate timelines have been prepared, updated to June 2025.
- Pre-Prohibition Breweries (1858-1917)
- Post-Prohibition Industrial Breweries (1921-2025)
- Craft Breweries (1982-2025)
Timeline entries are colour-coded by region. If a name is truncated, hover over the entry to view the full name and dates. Entries on the same row indicate continuity, e.g. a name change of the same brewing company or a new company at the same brewery site.
Data for the BC Brewery Timelines was compiled by SFU Archives from a number of sources (links to SFU Library record if available).
- Bill Wilson, Beer Barons of BC (Lantzville: Tamahi Publications, 2011)
- What's Brewing Magazine, 30th Anniversary Special Edition (Vol. 30, Issue 2, Summer 2020)
- Noëlle Phillips, Brewmasters and Brewery Creek: A History of Craft Beer in Vancouver (Touchwood Editions, 2024)
The timelines are also available (in a slightly different presentation) as a downloadable Excel spreadsheet, with separate tabs for each timeline.
The online version of timelines uses Google Charts. The data itself is maintained in a custom FileMaker database that is used to update information and output Google Charts code. The database is organized into separate tables for Breweries, Names, Categories (colour-coded regions), and Timelines; the data has been exported and is available for download as an Excel file.
