National Indigenous Peoples Month is an opportunity to celebrate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada. It's also a reminder that is more reconciliation and decolonization work that needs to be done.

Last year — for the first time since I became Executive Director of SFU’s Surrey campus — we hired an SFU Co-op student. As I reflected on this experience, one big question stood out for me: what took us so long to hire a Co-op student?

With summer already in full swing, I want to thank all of you for your hard work, dedication, and care for one another as we've worked through this pandemic together. It has truly been a unique time that has challenged the way that we live, work and connect.

Every three years, the BC Non-Profit Housing Association conducts a homeless count in Metro Vancouver. This week I joined a number of SFU students, faculty and staff as participants who conducted surveys to inform the 2020 Homeless Count in Surrey. More than 1,400 volunteered across the Metro Vancouver region for this important count.

Every February 91ÅÝܽ’s Surrey campus participates in Pink Shirt Day, as the community takes a stand against bullying.

With a crowd of nearly 400 people, including many government dignitaries and community partners and friends, we officially opened SFU’s newest building in the heart of downtown Surrey, the first step in our Surrey campus expansion.

OppFest is an annual event at the Surrey campus that brings together students pitching their product ideas to more than 60 faculty, staff and community judges. This year we even had a judge who came all the way from New York to participate in this amazing celebration of entrepreneurship and innovation.

On Tuesday, March 19, more than 60 community members gathered at SFU’s Surrey campus for ‘Community Perspectives on Living with HIV and Where We Go From Here’ – a lecture as part of the President’s Dream Colloquium.
