Submit your nomination for SFU's next chancellor

The nomination period is now open until October 17, 2025. To submit your nomination, please complete the following form. In addition to the required fields, you are also encouraged to include other helpful information with your nomination, such as an outline of the nominee’s achievements. 

Please note that nominations are confidential and should not be discussed with your nominee.

What kind of person can be nominated as a chancellor?

The university chancellor’s role is to confer all degrees and represent the university in an official capacity within the larger community as one of the university’s chief ambassadors.

Distinguished in their field, the chancellor advocates on behalf of the university and shares a commitment to post-secondary education and research. Past chancellors have had varied backgrounds and include Gordon Shrum, Jack Diamond, William Hamilton, Barbara Rae, Milton Wong, Brandt Louie, Carole Taylor and Anne Giardini.

Collection Notice

The information on this form is collected under the authority of the University Act (R.S.B.C. 1996, c.468), under SFU Policy B10.12. It is related directly to and needed by the University to select its next chancellor. The information will be used by the selection committee to evaluate the suitability of the nominee for the role of chancellor, and may be used to contact preferred candidates for discussions about their willingness to serve in the role.
