Synopsis
The Canadian High Arctic is home to some of the world’s most unique landforms, many of which are currently undergoing rapid transformation under amplified climate warming rates. Among these are patterned ground features, where stones will self-organize into distinct patterns, such as the sorted stripes that form on permafrost hillslopes. As the top of the permafrost layer melts and the potential for further erosion of water pathways increases, these features may play a growing role in shaping local hydrology in water-limited polar desert environments.
