MMI Assessor Sign Up Form

Help shape the inaugural class of SFU medical students!

The SFU School of Medicine is looking for engaged and thoughtful community members to join us as volunteer MMI Assessors and help select the next generation of doctors. We are sharing a small amount of information about our admissions process for the purpose of helping you decide whether you are able and willing to act as an assessor. We are not able to share any more information or recruit students until we receive Preliminary Accreditation status this Fall.

If you have questions about requirements or are interested in admissions, please sign up for our School of Medicine Interest Form for Prospective Applicants to be notified of updates when they become available.

What is an MMI?

The Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) is a structured interview process used to assess applicants' non-academic qualities. It involves a series of timed, scenario-based stations where candidates respond to questions or challenges designed to evaluate competencies essential for success in medical education, such as ethical decision-making, communication, or critical thinking.

What is an MMI Assessor?

As an MMI Assessor, you will observe applicants as they respond to a variety of scenarios or questions and then provide a score and brief feedback based on a clear set of criteria.

We are recruiting a wide variety of MMI Assessors. While we welcome, and are actively recruiting, health professionals, we also value the contributions of community members who do not have medical expertise. We welcome assessors from all walks of life as your unique perspective helps ensure we select well-rounded, compassionate future doctors. All assessors will receive training in advance to ensure they feel confident and well-prepared for their role.

MMI Dates & Location:

  • Location: SFU campus, Burnaby
  • Dates/times: March 28 & 29, 2026*
  • Time commitment: To act as an MMI assessor, you must attend a virtual training session (2 hours). Each Assessor will evaluate one MMI session, but could choose to attend as many as 4 MMI sessions. Each session lasts approximately 4 hours including pre-session training and set-up as well as time for notes and de-briefing at the end.
  • This is a volunteer opportunity, but we will cover your parking or transit fare and provide breakfast or lunch.

*to be confirmed once a preliminary accreditation decision has been made in Sept/Oct 2025.
