Nina Bautista

SPRING 2024 -

Nina Bautista is currently a fifth-year student at SFU majoring in Linguistics, minoring in Education (Curriculum & Instruction), and also completing the Teaching English as a Second Language and Speech Sciences Certificate programs. She has a deep interest in multilingualism, language acquisition, and sociolinguistics. She is aiming to go to graduate school for her MSc in Speech-Language Pathology. When she has free time, you will find her cooking in the kitchen, watching K-dramas, or playing video games with friends!

Alexandra Samosseiko

SPRING 2024 -

Alexandra is a fourth year student at SFU, majoring in cognitive science with a minor in psychology. Her research interests include studying language acquisition in bilingual households, second language acquisition in adulthood and its implications in everyday life. In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, and going on long walks around Vancouver.

Puneet Sidhu

Fall 2024 -

Puneet is a fourth-year undergraduate student working towards an undergraduate degree in Psychology and double minoring in Linguistics and Learning and Developmental Disabilities. She is also completing a Certificate in Speech Sciences. Puneet hopes to pursue a career as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the future. Growing up in a multilingual household, she is interested in first and second-language acquisition. During her free time, Puneet enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.

Ellie Dueck

Fall 2024 -

Ellie is a fourth year SFU student majoring in Linguistics. Her research interests include language acquisition, historical linguistics, and sociolinguistics. She hopes to continue learning at SFU post-graduation by pursuing a master’s degree in General Linguistics. In her free time, Ellie loves spending time with her three young nephews, going on spontaneous adventures, and baking treats for her family and friends.

Isabel Wu

Spring 2025 -

Isabel Wu is currently a second year student at SFU majoring in Linguistics, and currently working towards getting a minor in Learning and Developmental Disabilities while also completing a Certificate in Speech Sciences. Isabel plans to pursue her studies by obtaining a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology in hopes of becoming an Speech Language Pathologist. When she’s not busy with school, she loves music (especially going to concerts), paddle boarding, swimming, traveling and exploring new restaurants with her family and friends!

Neha Ismail

Spring 2025 -

Neha is in her fourth year at 91ÅÝܽ and is completing a major in Linguistics, a minor in Educational Psychology and the Linguistics of Speech Science certificate. She is really interested in first-language acquisition in children who have grown up in multilingual households. When she is not studying or working, she enjoys going to the gym, hanging out with friends, and spending time with her niece and nephew. 

Chanel Richards 

Spring 2025 -

Chanel is currently a third year student completing a major in Linguistics and a minor in Psychology. She aims to attend UBC to pursue a masters degree in Speech Language Pathology. While she is still exploring her favourite topics in Linguistics, Chanel is currently most interested in Psycholinguistics and first language acquisition. Outside of school, she spends most of her time tumbling and stunting on the SFU cheer team and nannying a 3.5 year old. 

Sydney Winkler

Summer 2025 -

Sydney Winkler is currently in her 2nd year at SFU, majoring in Linguistics and minoring in Psychology. She is working to achieve her dream career as a Speech Language Pathologist. Her research interests include first language acquisition and neurolinguistics (notably language and swallowing disorders). In her free time, she loves to put together jigsaw puzzles, play video games, and read. She is also part of a community choir and loves to perform.

Phoebe Law

Summer 2025 -

Phoebe is currently finishing up her second year as a Linguistics major at SFU and is working towards getting a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language and a minor in Education (Curriculum and Instruction). She has an interest in sociolinguistics/psycholinguistics, language acquisition and exploring different languages with which she plans to pursue a career in ESL teaching for adults. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing piano, listening to music and trying new things!

Elle Moore

Fall 2025 -

Elle is a third year Linguistics major with a Psychology minor. She is currently pursuing a career in healthcare with a passion for empowering patients to understand their health and healthcare. She learned Mandarin Chinese as a second language and has visited China twice and its one of her favorite places in the world. Her research interests are concerned with the benefits of a bilingual upbringing and resources to help parents and caregivers to best support their children's success in multiple languages.
