Welcoming Milka Njoroge, Ruth Wynn Woodward Junior Chair

September 16, 2025

The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSWS) at 91ÅÝܽ (SFU) is pleased to welcome Milka Njoroge as Ruth Wynn Woodward Junior Chair (2025-2027).

Njoroge joins SFU from Queen's University, where she completed her PhD in the Department of Gender Studies. Her research focuses broadly on the visual economy of suffering in postcolonial contexts, through a consideration of how the global flow of images transforms habits of seeing and being seen, particularly as it pertains to migration, memory, and border regimes.

Students will have the opportunity to enrol in courses taught by Njoroge starting in Spring 2026, when she teaches GSWS 205 - Gender, Sexuality and Popular Culture and GSWS 319 - Special Topics in GSWS.
