Meet the candidates:
Sikandra Ali
Positions: Treasurer, Graduate Programs Committee Representative, Graduate Student Society Councilor
I served as Treasurer for 2024–2025 and successfully issued Professional Development Grants (PDGs) to education graduate students. This role is crucial, as the caucus cannot disburse funds without it. I hope to continue in this capacity with your support.
I’m also standing for the Graduate Program Committee to advocate for fair allocation of TAships and sessional positions, and to represent student concerns at the program level.
Additionally, I’m putting my name forward for one of the three GSS Liaison positions, to ensure that the needs of our caucus are heard at the GSS and to support campaigns that benefit Education students.
If there are stronger candidates for the last two roles, I fully support their selection—what matters most is strong advocacy for our community.
Please vote for me!
Annie Hung
Positions: Co-chair, Graduate Student Society Councilor
Annie is a 2nd year doctorate student who also received their Masters degree from SFU. In their first year, they were an active executive member of the EdGSA as the GSS Councilor and Social Director. They regularly took minutes as the secretary at meetings and have a comprehensive understanding of how things run behind the scenes. This greatly informs her ability to responsibly act as a co-chair in the coming year. In their career, they are a visual arts educator dedicated to community education. Through arts-based education, their research explores actionable solutions to combat social isolation, especially among immigrant seniors and children. They value the relational process of collaborating with participants towards more equitable programming.
Antoine Lachance
Positions: Graduate Programs Committee Representative
I am a second-year graduate student in the Mathematics Education program. I value inclusive dialogue that makes space for voices not always at the center of conversation and am committed to ensuring a range of perspectives are considered. This aligns closely with my research on the dialogism of mathematics. I am motivated to run for the position of GPC Representative by a desire to contribute meaningfully to conversations about the graduate program and its development.
Claire McGillivray
Positions: Social Director
I am a first year PhD student in Mathematics Education. Way back in my undergrad degree, I served on department hiring committees and in the university senate as a student representative, and have been Co-President of our Mathematics Society. Given the opportunity, I would be proud to be of service here as a Social Director.
Ayush Mukherjee
Positions: Co-chair, Graduate Student Society Councilor
I am a second year PhD student in Mathematics Education. Over the last year, I served in the capacity of the graduate programs committee (GPC) representative and the graduate student society (GSS) representative for the EGSA. I am also currently sitting with the grant allocations committee at GSS.
I am from India, where I have worked in various student administrative and volunteer roles across different universities, largely focused on student representation, equity and inclusion and community projects. I have found that the work requires opening multiple channels for dialogue with different actors within the university, while being tethered to a core set of values. I seek to do more of the same for our Faculty here.
In my academic life, I am a researcher of aesthetics in math education. You might have seen me or my work loitering around the education building.
Diana Reis
Positions: Faculty Council Representative
Diana Bensoussan G. Reis is completing her MEd in Educational Technology and Learning Design at 91ÅÝܽ’s Faculty of Education and is transitioning into the PhD program in the same field. Her doctoral research investigates physician unionization in Canada, examining how collective voice, curriculum, and professional identity intersect in physician education. Diana brings over a decade of experience as an Education Officer and curriculum designer across health, immigration and settlement, higher education, and union contexts in Canada and internationally. Fluent in English and French, she has created inclusive programs for internationally educated nurses, physicians, newcomers, and international students, drawing on Universal Design for Learning and social constructionist frameworks.
Diana is eager to serve as Faculty Council Representative, bringing a collaborative spirit and a deep understanding of educational theory and health-sector realities to champion an engaged, inclusive, and dynamic graduate student community.
Nuzhat Nowshin Shaily
Positions: Media Officer, Social Director
I’m a first-year Masters student in TEAL, with a B.A. in Linguistics and an earlier M.A. in TESOL. My career so far has been a mix of teaching and edtech. Over the past four years, I’ve worked across program, content, and product management, partnering with media, marketing, customer service, and product teams to shape impactful learning experiences in Bangladesh. Teaching has always been close to my heart; I’ve taught Spoken English to students in grades 3–9 back home. Beyond the classroom, I’ve led student organizations as Vice President of NSU Communications Club and General Secretary of DEML Student Body, and contributed to Dhaka Tribune, one of Bangladesh’s leading newspapers. At heart, I’m passionate about how education, innovation, and technology can come together to make learning more accessible and meaningful.
Bahar Zandrazavi

My guiding motto in life is inspired by Gandhi: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.â€
