Members of SFU ECCE in GIS at the 32nd International Cartographic Conference

During August 17-22, Vancouver became the global stage for cartography and geospatial sciences by hosting the . Focusing on the theme “Mapping the Future Innovation, Inclusion and Sustainability”, the six-day event featured a range of presentations, workshops, exhibitions and technical tours. The conference opened with a welcome by the , reminding participants of the strong cultural and community connections of mapping. Keynote speakers highlighted the vital role of geospatial science in tackling global challenges, while technical sessions explored cutting-edge themes such as artificial intelligence in research and teaching. Many SFU ECCE in GIS members were actively engaged in this event. Suzana Dragicevic was involved on a Local Organizing Committee as Technical Tour Chair and member of the ICC 2025 Scientific Committee. Faculty members Nick Hedley and Bing Lu were in attendance and giving research talks. Student Associates Alysha van Duynhoven, Kira Sokolovskaia and Gus Schiele volunteered along with several other students enrolled in our GIS programs to help with the smooth running of the event. They had the opportunity to network directly with peers and professionals from the local and international cartographic community. The conference proved to be an inspiring experience, providing participants with new knowledge, fresh perspectives and valuable connections.
