
Sera Thompson
Sera Thompson is a recognized leader with over 25 years of experience in bringing people together across differences to solve complex social and environmental problems. She specializes in systems change, creative facilitation, conflict engagement, leadership coaching and creative approaches to adult education. Beginning as an environmental scientist working to make change on ecological challenges, Sera became a passionate changemaker leading initiatives that span the fields of: climate change, education and early childhood, First Nations engagement, forestry, food systems, racial justice and human rights, public health, sustainability, urban planning, and beyond. She is a seasoned expert in collective impact, adult learning, complex systems change, conflict transformation and public engagement.
Since 2017 Sera has been a key leader in HalifACT, one of the most ambitious climate action movements in Canada, as the lead engagement consultant and later as manager of collective impact. HalifACT is a local community response to the climate crisis that will build a more resilient and healthy future in Atlantic Canada while preparing for current and future climate impacts. Sera led transformative implementation around climate goals across municipal government, including multiple departments; business leaders across the city as they commit to implementing climate goals in their operations; partners from academia, non-profit and other levels of government; and community youth and equity-deserving groups.
Global Models for Buddhist Children’s Education
Sera is currently leading a project to support schools around the world that are interested in applying Buddhist principles of interdependence awareness and compassion into classrooms from Canada to India and Eastern Europe to Bhutan. These schools are coming together to learn from and support each other to develop a next generation with the skills and orientation to steer humanity through multiple crises.
