Matt Thomson

Matt Thomson is a senior planner with the Sunshine Coast Regional District. Matt has worked in the community housing sector for over 15 years, in the non-profit sector, as a consultant, and most recently in local government. He has worked extensively with all levels of government and housing providers to develop community-based analysis of housing needs and demands—analysis that has informed municipal decision-making and development. He has worked on community housing studies and plans across Western Canada, in communities from Wood Buffalo, Alberta, to Victoria, B.C. He has also led work with provincial agencies, including developing housing needs projections for Saskatchewan Housing, managing the research component of the 2018 BC Provincial Homeless Count and acting in a senior advisory capacity on the 2020 BC Provincial Homeless Count. Matt has a master of arts in planning from the University of British Columbia and lives on the Sunshine Coast.
