G7 Leaders’ Summit targets economic growth from AI and quantum computing – SFU experts available
Canada’s 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15 to 17, 2025. The Prime Minister’s office ahead of the summit, which include “using artificial intelligence and quantum to unleash economic growth.â€
SFU experts are available to comment and provide insights into AI and quantum computing and the huge impact they are poised to deliver for the Canadian economy:

DUGAN O'NEIL, Vice-President, Research and Innovation

Expertise: As a professor of physics at 91ÅÝܽ, Dugan’s research has focused on the search for new particles and interactions at high energy particle colliders at Fermilab and CERN. In addition to his work as a particle physicist, O'Neil has played a leadership role in building Canada's Digital Research Infrastructure, through work with WestGrid and Compute Canada. This includes spending three years (2014-2017) as Compute Canada's Chief Science Officer.
At SFU, he has served as principal investigator of the institution's advanced research computing efforts since 2010. Under his leadership, SFU has built , one of Canada's most powerful academic supercomputers, which is supporting the growing use of artificial intelligence in research and industry.

Expertise: Stephanie is a world-leading expert in quantum technologies, silicon spin-photon interfaces, condensed matter spin dynamics and control, silicon-integrated photonics, and quantum optics.
She is the co-chair of the advisory board to Canada’s National Quantum Strategy, a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Silicon Quantum Technologies, and a Canadian Institute for Advanced Research Fellow in Quantum Information Science.
