They Never Learn

Layne Fargo

Gallery/Scout Press (2020)

Our group found They Never Learn to be an entertaining and fast-paced read—some were surprised by the twists, while others saw them coming, but most agreed it was hard to put down. Themes of vigilante women, rage, justice, and double standards sparked rich conversation. While the book itself sometimes felt like “gender studies 101” or lacked depth, our discussion pulled out more complexity than the text offered, leading many to feel that the feminist commentary landed more powerfully in conversation than on the page. Overall, it was enjoyable, thought-provoking, and ripe for debate—like a fleeting gum flavor, it packed a punch in the moment but left us wanting more.
