Reports
Holding ourselves accountable
Transparency and accountability are vital components of systemic change. Below you will find key documents and reports that track the current climate of equity, diversity and inclusion at SFU. These reports will guide our efforts as we develop new strategies and tools.
Equity Compass Report
The Equity Compass, SFU’s equity, diversity and inclusion strategic plan, outlines our commitment to equity data through two key objectives that include the establishment of an cross-institutional taskforce to oversee the initiative, and the development of a framework and processes that will sustain and advance these data-driven EDI efforts.
Demographic and Diversity Data Survey Dashboard
SFU regularly conducts a demographic and diversity survey to gather data to meet our regulatory needs and institutional commitments, support equitable and accountable programs and service delivery and measure progress towards our institutional priorities. An anonymized and aggregated summary of the data is now available.
Inclusion Experience Report
The inclusion experience questions were part of the Demographic and Diversity Data Survey shared with the community in fall 2024. The questions were designed to assess the perceptions of fairness, respect, inclusion and institutional support at SFU.
The inclusion experience findings have been separated from the institutional Demographic and Diversity Survey Dashboard because their purpose and nature differ and to ensure the responsible use of sensitive information. While the Demographic and Diversity Data Survey Dashboard presents broad, quantitative metrics related to questions on identity, disability, sexual orientation and religion, the Inclusion Experience portion of the survey focuses on perceptions and lived experiences.
Trans Equity Survey 2023
With current world events, transgender, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and other gender-diverse people have good reason to question if their safety and inclusion are prioritized at SFU. Inspired by the work of groups like Out on Campus and of individual trans community members and allies, a group of SFU staff, faculty members and grad students launched the Trans Equity Survey in Spring 2023. The survey produced key data in order to more clearly identify gender-diverse inequity at SFU and hopefully lay a foundation for better communication among 2SLGBTQIA+ staff and better support collaboration, ally-ship, and resource-sharing regarding trans equity for marginalized people at SFU. Please note: In the survey, the word “trans,” is used intending to be inclusive while acknowledging that some gender-diverse people do not identify with the term, though they may face similar issues at our institution.
Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education
91ܽ one of more than 40 universities and colleges across Canada that have officially signed the Scarborough Charter, vowing to redress anti-Black racism and foster Black inclusion in higher education.
