Carman Neustaedter reappointed as dean, Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology
We are thrilled to share that Dr. Carman Neustaedter has been reappointed for a five-year term as dean of the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT), effective September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2030.
A search committee for this role was formed in December 2024 in accordance with SFU’s policy on Search Committees for Deans (A 13.05). Following a community consultation and performance review, the committee unanimously recommended Dr. Neustaedter’s reappointment and the Board approved this recommendation at the May 22 Board meeting.
Dr. Neustaedter began his term as dean during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped lead the faculty during this difficult time, as well as through the return to campus. Subsequently, he led FCAT through a collaborative and consultative planning process to create an FCAT governance policy, the faculty’s new academic plan and the faculty’s strategic plan for 2024 and beyond. During his time as dean, the faculty has seen the creation of a faculty advisor position on Equity, Community and Care and the creation of the FCAT Community in Practice to respond to and demonstrate FCAT's commitments to decolonization, Indigenization, Truth and Reconciliation and inclusive excellence.
I would like to thank members of the search committee for their time and consideration, as well as Dr. Neustaedter for his leadership and contributions to FCAT and our SFU community. Please join me in congratulating him on his reappointment.
Sincerely,
Dilson Rassier
Provost and Vice-President Academic
