Andrea Spindler

Andrea Spindler is an accomplished and strategic leader who has spent much on her career focused on police accountability and fundamentally believes in the essential role of civilian oversight bodies to foster community trust, transparency and accountability. As the Deputy Police Complaint Commissioner for British Columbia, Andrea has successfully advocated for legislative change to the police complaints process, prioritized the incorporation of restorative approaches to address police complaints and improved accessibility to the complaints process. She has worked within complex operational environments, driving forward creative and innovative initiatives supporting public confidence in police and the oversight system.

Currently, Andrea is leading the newly expanded mandate of the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner to more broadly examine and address underlying policing concerns or problems to better identify trends and issues impacting public confidence in policing and police accountability, with the goal of identifying areas for system, policy, training, or legislative reform and a focus on preventative approaches.
