Rare ‘medieval’ artifacts found in B.C. thrift store donated to SFU for study

September 25, 2025

Centuries-old artifacts discovered for sale in a BC thrift store for just $30" — a shocking reminder that objects of historical significance often hide in plain sight.

This Fall 2026, ARCH 332: Special Topics in Archaeology gives you the chance to turn that kind of surprise into rigorous research.

🏺 What you’ll do in ARCH 332:
• Work hands-on with real artifacts, using non-destructive scientific analysis
• Learn the ethics of unprovenanced collections
• Generate 3D scans to document and visualize object form and detail

Co-taught by Cara Tremain & Sabrina Higgins, this course invites you to bring past objects into present scholarship.

Spaces are limited. Contact the Academic Advisor in the Archaeology Department office for registration details!
